forsvaret.dk/jgk/Pages/JGK50%C3%85R.aspxJaegercorps turns 50 In the 1960s when the "cold war" was at its highest, and while the Berlin Wall was being built (in 1961), it was decided that Denmark should establish a special unit, which mainly could be catching body during a crisis period (so-called "gray period") in the event of a possible outbreak of armed conflict between the Warsaw Pact and NATO. Thus, the current Jaeger Corps was created, on 1 November 1961. In October 1961 the first candidates convened for auditions. There were 130 attendees, from which were selected 13, who was immediately sent to Altenstadt in Germany where the German parachute school was located. Since then tasks have been modified and adapted several times. The 50th anniversary will be marked on Tuesday 1st November with a parade of Special Forces, based at Aalborg Air Base. The parade will be attended by TRH the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, Defence Chief, General Knud Bartels and Head of the Army Operational Command, Major General Agner Rokos, and several other military commanders. After a short press briefing at 12.15 next to the guardhouse to Aalborg Air Base, Thisted Road 53, Vadum accredited press will be able to photograph / film / follow HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary's arrival and inspection of the parade, the parade of speeches by Defense Chief and Chief of Army Operational Command. Immediately following the parade there is a reception for guests, but with no media access. Jaegercorps make it a condition of accreditation that photos and films may not show the soldier's faces, so they can be recognized. Saturday 5th November Jaegercorps implements an official training exercise in and on the Port of Aalborg. This takes place in the presence of HM the Queen, Defence Chief, General Knud Bartels and Head of the Army Operational Command, Major General Agner Rokos, and several other military commanders.

Mls, thanks so much for posting news here. We may be down for a while at the new board.
If any others find their way here, please move posting and discussion for the time being to this board for Tuesday's event. and be prepared to have F&M, W&K event coverage here, too, just in case.
